Today’s Scripture… “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it.” — Luke 14:28
Thoughts for Today… Word to the wise……look for the hidden cost.
I’m always amazed at all the adds in the newspaper of how you can buy new cars, motorcycles, boats and yes even four wheelers with such low monthly payments.
Now, let me tell you, there are all kinds of offers out there. I mean, there are a dozen or so different companies producing automobiles, each with another dozen or so different types of automobiles, and a gazillion dealers out there competing for the sale. So, there are a lot of offers out there. And some of them look very enticing on the surface level. But, there’s a hidden cost that gets you in the end. Let me give you an example.
$149.00 down and $149.00 a month for five years LOOKS GOOD for a brand new $20,000 vehicle. Those are terms you can afford, right? Do the math. That only adds up to $9,089. Why would they possibly give you a $20,000 vehicle for $9,089? They wouldn’t. You see, if you read the fine print, you’ll discover that your final payment is referred to as a “balloon” payment and is $10,911! Which is something you can’t afford. The offer looks good up front, but it gets you in the end! You know, sin is a lot like that kind of offer.
And satan is the master sales man. He can hand you over terms that you think you can afford, and give you an offer that looks good on the surface level. He can offer you $20,000 for only $9,000 and make you think you’re getting a good deal……but I promise you there is a balloon payment waiting to get you in the end! There are consequences that result because of sin every single time. You got to read the fine print! The fine print of God’s Word. God’s Word tells us to count the cost of our actions. The Bible tells us to be cautious of doing something that has too great a price attached to it.
And that goes double for disobeying the Father. That’s too high a price to pay!
Friend, I can guarantee you that temptation is looming at your door. That’s a fact of life. Satan is a salesman and he is walking about seeking customers. He wants to sell you on the idea of a “little white lie” or sharing some gossip or flirting with that married co-worker, or neglecting your “quiet” time in prayer and Bible study. He has an offer of jealousy and bitterness and anger and unforgiveness that he wants you to take him up on. He’s got something he wants to sell you today.
I encourage you — count the cost. Stay loyal to your Savior, Jesus Christ. The offer may look good on the surface level, but when it’s all said and done…
…what’s it gonna cost you?
