That Doesn’t Make Sense – May 15, 2017

Today’s Scripture… “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.” – Psalms 147:5

Thoughts for Today… Have you ever tried to teach someone about the computer or the Internet and they just didn’t seem to get it?

I don’t want to talk about anyone…but my mom and dad might fit into that category. My dad’s idea of a mouse is a little furry creature that eats cheese.  Windows are something mom cleans on Tuesdays.  And surfing the net invokes ideas of a day at the beach. In other words, they don’t understand a whole lot about computers.

But, that’s ok.  They spent many a day teaching me things about life and, most importantly, about eternal life.  The least I can do is afford them a few hours of computer training.   I love my mom and dad very much and actually it’s quite entertaining and fun showing them “the basics.”  I have been showing Pop the basics for several years now lol!

They actually understand some of the basics like…starting the computer and logging on to the Internet, but from there it can be very challenging to send email or exploring a wonderful site on the Internet. Some things just don’t seem to make any sense.

For instance…when you want to shut down the computer, you have to click on the “Start” button in the lower left hand corner of your computer.  To shut down or to quit you have to click start.

“Huh?  Are you sure?  That doesn’t make sense.  We want to quit and you say click ‘Start.'”

I wanted to respond with…”Trust me.  I’ve been doing this a long time.  I know what I’m doing.” …but I didn’t.

You see, as most of you know, the “shutdown” function is accessible by clicking on the “Start” button in Windows programs.

You know, sometimes we interact with God somewhat like that.  In fact, a lot like that…

Take for instance, when God tells us to do something that just doesn’t make sense to us.  You know, when He tells us to do something that, to our minds, seems backwards.  How do we respond?

“Huh?  Are you sure?  That doesn’t make sense.”

Maybe this morning you are facing one of those times.  Perhaps the Lord has instructed you to give something that seems like it is too great to give.  Or, maybe He has laid upon your heart to witness to someone that seems unreachable.

I don’t know, but maybe the Lord is asking you to step out in faith this morning to do something that seems illogical to you.

Maybe you are like I become sometimes when my faith gets a little weak, and you would say to God…

“Huh?  Are you sure?  That doesn’t make sense.”

Know what God would say to you?

“Trust me.  I’ve been doing this a long time.  I know what I’m doing.”

My friend, that’s His way of saying, “click on that start button this morning!”

Have a “Wonderful DAY in Christ,”
