Today’s Scripture… “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” – John 14:2,3
Thoughts for Today… As I write this devotional, I am thinking about the time when my family first moved to this side of the state. We were trying to sale our house back in the north-east side of Arkansas so we were invited by Pop & Mom Ring to stay at their house until our house sold.
They had two extra bedrooms that weren’t being used, and had plenty of room. The surroundings were familiar to me. We had been there many times before. We knew where all the important things were…
…the refrigerator, the bathroom and the remote control.
My mom and dad’s home is beautiful. It is very spacious and our accommodations were more than comfortable there. We had our own room, our own bathroom and everything we needed. But, this was not our home.
It was wonderful and beautiful and comfortable, but it’s not my home. It’s familiar and I know my way around and it provides a place for us to stay, but it’s not my home. It doesn’t matter how nice it is, or how inviting my parents were, or how many times I’ve been here, this place is not my home.
I love it there. I enjoy it there. I don’t mind being there. But, it’s not my home. You know, that’s the way I feel about this world. My surroundings here in this world are familiar to me. I know where all the important things in life are found…
…like friends, family and ministry.
My world, although imperfect, is a wonderful one, filled with beauty. I have more than I need here — my life is very spacious and my accommodations are more than comfortable. I have plenty of room and everything I need. But, this world is not my home. It’s familiar and I know my way around and it provides a place for me to stay, but it’s not my home.
It doesn’t matter how nice my life is, how inviting the things of this world are, this place is not my home. I love it here. I enjoy it here. I don’t mind being here. But, it’s not my home. I’m just here for a short visit.
You see, my home is in heaven. Jesus has told me that He is there preparing a place for me. I’ve got a place reserved for me in the Father’s mansion. I’m just here for a short visit. Someday, I’m going home.
My, I can’t wait!
How about you?
Have a Blessed Day
