Today’s Scripture… “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
Thoughts for Today… As most of you know over the past 13 years since we started Family Worship Center, I have had the very distinct pleasure of helping more families move than I can count on my two hands…Ok, so it was more pain than pleasure.
Let’s just be downright honest, it was a lot of hard work! I mean to tell you, some of the things people owned seemed to be made out of solid lead or some similar substance. H-E-A-V-Y!
I never saw so much stuff in my life. Boxes and boxes of stuff. You’d have thought some of the folks were the majority stock-holder of Stuff Mart! Whew, there seemed to be an unending stack of things to load onto the trailer.
Stuff their family, no doubt, had accumulated over a period of time. A bit here and a bit there adds up to a lot of bits! You know, as I thought back today to the time when I’ve helped people move and even the times my own family had to move, it reminded me that we, as Christians, often get weighed down with a lot of stuff ourselves.
Think about it — how many burdens and anxieties and worries are accumulated over time? How much bitterness and resentment and ill will is gathered through the months and years? How many “pet sins” and “little white lies” and gossip and hurt feelings are collected as the days go by? I’m sure if we could take a look at our spiritual U-Hauls, we’d see a trailer truckload of stuff that is weighing us down.
Mistakes — fears — hardships — broken relationships…
…boxes and boxes of stuff piled high.
Know what I mean?
Friend, maybe this morning it’s time that we unload.
And I know just the One to help us. His name is Jesus.
The Bible tells us that we are to “cast our cares upon Him.” That is, we are to back that spiritual U-Haul up to the cross of Calvary and cry out, “Jesus, I can’t carry this weight any longer, would you unload this junk and get rid of it forever.”
He’ll do it. All you have to do is ask.
As I write this devotion today, there are many individuals and also families that God has laid on my heart…some of you reading this today are so weighted down with stuff…but this morning I’m praying for you…I’m calling out your name…I want God’s best for you…I love you…
More importantly God loves you…He loves you so much and it breaks His heart to see you weighed down with the cares of this world, when He longs to lift them from you. Why not turn to Him right now and pour your heart out? Let Him know what you are struggling with (He already knows) and ask Him to take the worry and guilt and chains from you today.
It’s time to unload.
Have a “Wonderful DAY in Christ,”
