Who Will Be Jesus to Them? – May 8, 2017

Today’s Scripture… “And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?  But when Jesus heard that, He said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.”  – Matthew 9:11-12

Thoughts for Today…
The teenage mother who is unmarried.
The homosexual down the street.
The dirty, smelly man who lives around the corner.
The ex-convict that just started working with you.
The rude, obnoxious co-worker who has it in for you.
The person that everyone seems to avoid…

Who will be Jesus to them?

My grandfather was the nicest man I ever knew.  He would give his very last dime to someone in need.  I didn’t hesitate to share the Lord Jesus with him.

I got to know a man at work really well.  He was a former baseball player, even played semi-pro.  I just had to tell him about Christ.

Then, there was the well-dressed saleswoman who came to my business.  She was a
former beauty contest winner, or so she said.  It didn’t take me long to tell her about the real beauty that is found in the Lord.

I saw a friendly elderly lady at the grocery store one day and handed her a tract.  She thanked me with a smile.  It must have pleased God for me to be so faithful in witnessing.

But what about the guy I worked with for four years who was constantly harassing me and causing me trouble…did I tell him about the Love of Christ?  Or, the homosexual who works at the local gas station, have I ever told him that Jesus can set him free?  Oh yeah, there’s a really foul smelling, dirty woman who comes down my road everyday looking for aluminum cans…have I given her a tract?  That teenage girl who just had her second child, instead of judging her, did I do as Jesus did and say, “Go and sin no
more?”

The people that I mentioned above are all fictional.  It’s just a story.  Just something made up…but we all know people just like them.  They’re the outcasts.  The ones that most people look down upon or don’t look at them at all.  “They just need to get saved,” Christians say of them…but who will tell them how to be saved? Who will be Jesus to them?

You see, the long haired, foul mouthed jerk needs to hear the Gospel just as much as the clean-cut, well-mannered “nice guy.”  The dirty, smelly street urchin needs to hear about Jesus just as much as the manicured grandmother.  The person that everyone seems to avoid needs Christ just as much as the popular person that everyone loves.

The Pharisees despised Christ.  They hated Him because He didn’t play church with them.  They just couldn’t understand why He didn’t hobknob with them, the upper class, the religious crowd, and instead chose to spend time with the outcasts.  They didn’t like it that Jesus took time to love the unloveable, that he touched the untouchable, that he befriended the friendless.  Oh how they burned inside when they saw him forgive the adulterers and the set the demon-possessed free and heal the lepers…the very people that they wanted nothing to do with.

Jesus took His message to the ones who needed it most…the sick.  The sick in spirit, the sick in sin.  And He healed them. Who will take His message to the sick today?  You and I are to be the cross-bearers.  We are to carry His banner to the afflicted…and watch Jesus set the captives free.

The teenage mother who is unmarried.
The homosexual down the street.
The dirty, smelly man who lives around the corner.
The ex-convict that just started working with you.
The rude, obnoxious co-worker who has it in for you.
The person that everyone seems to avoid…

Will YOU be Jesus to them?
