Word for Today…”And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9
Thoughts for Today..Ever feel discouraged? Ever want to give up? Let me tell you about a woman named Florence Chadwick. Florence Chadwick was determined to become the first woman to swim across the Pacific Ocean between the coast of California and Catalina Island — a distance of some 26 miles that only the most experienced swimmers could possibly complete. Her date with history started off auspicously. The morning of her swim was bitterly cold, and to make matters worse, there was a very thick fog present,
making it difficult to see more than a short distance in front of her. Added to which, sharks followed her during her swim, adding even more danger to the journey!
Florence’s family stayed near her in a boat, determined to encourage and cheer her as she made her way through the water. But, Florence became discouraged. The fog was so thick that she couldn’t see how much further she had to go. It was impossible to determine the distance that remained, and she finally gave up, and jumped into the boat with her family. It was then that Florence and her family discovered some disheartening news…
…she had been only a half mile away from finishing the swim. She had given up too soon — when she was almost there. Many times we feel like Florence, don’t we? We are on our journey and we can’t see the end in sight. Things are too foggy for us to see how much further we have to go. It’s cold. And sharks are closing in.
And we get discouraged. And we give up. But, if we’ll just listen closely, we’ll hear the the cheers and encouragement of the Father. He’s got a boat near. And He wants to spur us on to the other shore.
Friend, what is it that you feel discouraged in today? What is it that has you feeling like giving up? Have you been witnessing to that lost loved one who just won’t listen?
Maybe you’ve been involved in some ministry and folks just don’t seem to be responding. Perhaps the Lord has given you some assignment that isn’t working out like you thought it would. Is there some difficulty or hardship that you are facing that just won’t end?
Don’t quit. Instead, listen to the encouraging voice of the One in the boat. He’s cheering you on today. Keep going. Don’t give up now.
You may only be a half mile away.
